What your breakdown insurance doesn't cover.
When taking out breakdown insurance always check what you are not covered for. Below is a list of some things your breakdown policy may exclude:
- Parts
- labour costs which exceed the maximum set out in the policy
- Claims which exceed a certain limit (e.g. the market value of your car)
- Recovery is not usually included following an accident, not even to a local garage.
- Claims when the vehicle exceeds a mileage limit given in the policy
- Claims where you did not follow the claims procedure properly (e.g. unauthorised work, services or expenditure)
- Transport of any animal is usually not covered, such as horses or livestock, however, small domestic pets may be transported at the discretion of the patrol.
- You may not be covered when, you call out the breakdown service, if the call out is due to the same or a similar fault to that attended in a recent call out with the same vehicle.
- Unlimited call-outs are not included, each policy will have a maximum, if you go over that amount you will have to pay extra.
- If your vehicle breaks down most poicies will also cover trailers and caravans up to a certain size and weight limit, however, if it is the trailer or caravan that breaks
down then you will not be covered.
