Marks & Spencer Car Ins Review

No sheep in wolfs clothing, Marks and Spencer have a growing influence in the insurance market. Let them help you.

Marks and Spencer Car Ins Company History

Marks and Spencer was founded way back in 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer with a stall at the Leeds market. The business continued to boom from day one until the pinnacle of the groups recent history saw it report profits of over £1 billion in 1998 – the first £1 billion plus profit ever recorded by a UK retailer. However this was to prove to be a turning point for the group, a group which had failed to grasp the potential of the internet and had left the doorway open for a whole host of competitors to snatch their market share.

Prior to the internet, Marks and Spencer had been a phenomenon in the UK retailing sector, one of the few companies who did not need to advertise themselves – their name and reputation went before them. Then came the late 1990s and early 2000s which saw the group lose touch with their customer base, although underneath the mess which was the original clothing division was the ever expanding financial services arm. It took the appointment of Stuart Rose to put the group back on a firm footing and refocus both the clothing and non-clothing areas of the business. The store card and insurance areas of the financial division have been helping to push the group forward with much of their lost market share returning.

The story of Marks and Spencer is one which so reflects the power and influence of the internet. Unable to keep pace with their more fleet footed competitors, Marks and Spencer soon realised that the new breed of online retailers where ‘pinching’ their business, and there was little they could do about it. Thankfully under the stewardship of Stuart Rose the group are now back on the growth path, more focused and more competitive than they have been for some time. They also have a large financial services division which is slowly catching up with their retail division in terms of profitability.

Other Marks and Spencer Insurance Products

While best known for their clothing operations, Marks and Spencer have been building a quality financial services division for some time. Using their customer base and financial clout they have created a number of very competitive offerings with the car insurance business leading the way. Home insurance, pet insurance, travel insurance and life insurance have naturally followed giving the group an all rounds exposure to the insurance sector. Many people are not aware how large the financial services division is and how much power it has in the market – even in the troubled 1990s and early 2000s, the financial services division was still growing.

The success of Marks and Spencer has resulted in a number of websites appearing with further details about their services, including www.marksandspencer.com, www.marksandspencer.co.uk, www.marksandspencers.com, www.marksandspencers.co.uk, www.marksandspencerinsurance.co.uk, www.marksandspencerfinancial.com and www.mands.co.uk to name but a few.
